Terms of Service
These terms cover your use of the TapLedger app and service. They are meant to be readable; where something limits what you can expect from us, it is said plainly rather than buried.
The service
TapLedger turns payment screenshots and messages into ledger entries. You share a capture, it extracts the merchant, amount, category and date, and posts an entry to your ledger. Captures it is unsure about wait in Review for you to confirm.
Your account
You need an account to use TapLedger. Keep your credentials to yourself — you are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access, and revoke that device’s session from Settings.
You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and at least 13.
Accuracy, and what this is not
Extraction is automated and will sometimes be wrong. TapLedger shows a confidence level and holds uncertain captures for review precisely because it is not infallible. You are responsible for checking your ledger before relying on it.
TapLedger is a record-keeping tool. It is not accounting, tax, investment or legal advice, and it is not a substitute for your bank’s or card issuer’s own records, which remain authoritative. Do not rely on it as your sole record for a tax filing or any other obligation.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- upload material you have no right to share, including other people’s financial records;
- try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or circumvent limits on the service;
- use it to launder money, commit fraud, or break the law where you are;
- resell or redistribute the service without our written agreement.
Free and paid tiers
The free tier includes a limited number of captures per period; the paid tier removes that limit. We count captures against the current period to apply it.
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple, not by us. They renew automatically until cancelled, and you cancel or change them in your Apple account settings — not in TapLedger. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policy. If we change what a tier includes or what it costs, we will tell you before it applies to you.
Your content
Your captures and your ledger remain yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service — to process a capture, store the resulting entry, and show it back to you. We do not claim ownership of your data and we do not use it to train models.
The app, its design and its code remain ours. These terms do not transfer any of that to you.
Availability
We aim to keep TapLedger running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of it; where a change is significant and we can give notice, we will.
Ending it
You can stop using TapLedger at any time, cancel your subscription through Apple, and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. You can export your transactions as CSV before you go.
Disclaimers and liability
To the extent the law allows, TapLedger is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or losses arising from your reliance on an extraction you did not check. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $100.
Changes to these terms
We will post any change here and update the date at the top. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use TapLedger after that means you accept the new terms.
